The VPPN Online is a digital community and resource for vaccine procurement practitioners to exchange knowledge and learn from each other’s experiences. Limited membership of the community is designed to encourage an open exchange amongst those procurement practitioners buying vaccines on behalf of their respective countries to improve child health outcomes. The VPPN Online resulted from the establishment of the Vaccine Procurement Practitioners Network (VPPN), following the first Vaccine Procurement Practitioners Exchange Forum 2015 (VPPEF), hosted by UNICEF Supply Division in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Forum brought together senior-level practitioners and technical experts working to optimize worldwide vaccine procurement.

The first Vaccine Procurement Practitioners Exchange Forum (VPPEF) marked the start of a journey towards improved child health outcomes worldwide. It signified a commitment from participants to exchange knowledge and learn from each other to improve vaccine procurement.
Senior government officials and technical experts from a range of international organizations came together to discuss the issues that really matter. Specialists gave updates on vaccine markets and countries had the opportunity to share their own procurement practices. Issues such as joint procurement, regulatory mechanisms and financing were all up for discussion.
In an innovative turn, participants were even able to set the agenda themselves by proposing topics for breakout sessions, through the Open Space Technology form of self-organization. Looking forward, the Forum has established the Vaccine Procurement Practitioners Network (VPPN) and the unique online platform, the VPPN Online where members are able to continue the process of knowledge exchange, until the next face-to-face meeting.
